This virtual tour features the Vent Haven Museum. It is the only museum in the world dedicated to the art of ventriloquism. Situated on a small residential street in northern Kentucky, it houses many hundreds of retired or donated figures and thousands of photographs and other memorabilia covering the history of ventriloquism back to the 1700’s.

This amazing collection of US President ventriloquism dummies was donated to the museum by retired performer Jim Teter. Jim performed with these figures for decades including on the Tonight Show with Steve Allen. He was on stage warming up the crowd for John Davidson at the infamous Beverly Hills Supper Club on the night of the tragic fire. He is credited with helping to keep the crowd calm during the evacuation. With the addition of these figures the museum’s collection now contains 900 dummies!

This interactive tour shows somewhat of the atmosphere and environment of the 2015 Western & Southern Tennis Open located in the Greater Cincinnati city of Mason, Ohio. This year had the men and women champions from last year both defend their titles. Roger Federer again wins the mens title for a record 7 times at this tournament. Serena Williams repeats for her 3rd title here. It has been since 1937 and 1938 with Bobby Riggs and Virginia Hollinger since the last time the men and women champions had both successfully defended their titles.

The Western & Southern Open originated in 1899 and has been a fixture in the Cincinnati area  ever since. The list of champions is a who’s who of tennis greats with over 100 international Hall of Famers having played here.

Originally photographed in 2010 I have updated the tour of this beautiful Basilica in Covington, Kentucky. It is said to have one of the largest stained glass windows in the world at 67 feet by 24 feet. This church in fact contains a profusion of 82 stained glass windows. Spaced along the north and south transepts are incredible mosaic depictions of the stations of Christ’s passion and death. As many as 80,000 tiles were used in each station. There are several large mural paintings by local Covington painter Frank Duveneck installed in 1910.

This is an updated version of a virtual tour that has been on-line since 2010 or so. I have “re-mastered” the image files and rebuilt the whole tour interface. The main issue of the old tour was that it was not compatible with iOS devices and other hand-held devices. It should now work with all (or most) handheld and tablet devices.

Old St Mary’s Pipe Organ

Old St Mary’s Pipe Organ

Visit the organ chest tour here or click the image below:

The pipe organ at Old St Mary’s Church in Cincinnati was recently rebuilt and renovated. The original organ was contracted from the Austin Organ Company on July 12th 1929 and when installed was the 2nd largest organ in Cincinnati. This virtual tour explores the inner workings of the organ chest which houses the organ pipes. Some of the views include various chambers of the organ under reconstruction and without the new pipes installed. Other views include the new pipes installed. The tour opens with sounds from the whole organ and as you explore the various views you can experience the sound quality from the pipes in that particular view by clicking on the little keyboard icon. Be sure especially to click the little keyboard in the Pedal Organ view, those are fun! Old St Mary’s is the oldest church in Cincinnati being dedicated on July 3rd, 1842. To see some more panorama views of Old St Mary’s check out my previous post here.
